Michigan Congressional Election 2020 Political Courage Test

Pro-life Do you generally support pro-choice or pro-life legislation?
My first child's birth was fraught with challenges and others might have chosen to abort her faced with the issues we did. She graduated this year to become a teacher. My son was born to another woman in Guatemala, to whom I give thanks every day for giving him life. I honor life, from conception to death.
No In order to balance the budget, do you support an income tax increase on any tax bracket?
No Do you support expanding federal funding to support entitlement programs such as Social Security and Medicare?
We don't have a taxing problem in this country; we have a spending problem. As a single mom, I often had to determine what my home budget looked like for the year. Sometimes, I had to forego something we wanted because I couldn't afford it or because I needed to save. We need to do the same in the federal government. And we must elect politicians who/ve had that kind of experience; who know what it means to have to balance a budget or go without. not people who have never had to do that or who have spent foolishly.
Unknown Position Do you support the regulation of indirect campaign contributions from corporations and unions?
I believe we should remove the caps on donations from individuals and increase transparency so voters know who is funding campaigns.
Unknown Position Do you support increasing defense spending?
OTHER: I believe defense spending should be among the priorities for the federal government and spending. That said, I also am a proponent of eliminating waste and unnecessary spending throughout government, just as we have to do in business, and of a balanced budget amendment. Therefore, I would first like to ensure that our defense spending is efficient and effective before deciding if it also is enough.
No Do you support federal spending as a means of promoting economic growth?
Yes Do you support lowering corporate taxes as a means of promoting economic growth?
Yes Do you support providing financial relief to businesses AND/OR corporations negatively impacted by the state of national emergency for COVID-19?
No Do you support requiring states to adopt federal education standards?
Unknown Position Do you support government funding for the development of renewable energy (e.g. solar, wind, geo-thermal)?
Unknown Position Do you support the federal regulation of greenhouse gas emissions?
Before adding any new regulations to any industry, I would want to review current regulations to see if they are meeting the needs of the American people and to see if there are outdated regulations that need to be eliminated.
No Do you generally support gun-control legislation?
I support legislation that does not restrict our right to own and bear arms and I do not support legislation that tramples on other constitutional rights (red flag laws, for instance, that can harm due process rights).
Yes Do you support repealing the 2010 Affordable Care Act ("Obamacare")?
No Do you support requiring businesses to provide paid medical leave during public health crises, such as COVID-19?
If the federal government requires businesses to provide paid medical leave during public health crises, then the federal government ought to fund the mandate.
Yes Do you support the construction of a wall along the Mexican border?
Unknown Position Do you support requiring immigrants who are unlawfully present to return to their country of origin before they are eligible for citizenship?
My grandparents were immigrants who became Americans, built productive lives, adopted the laws, freedoms, and responsibilities, and weren't afraid of hard work or sacrifice. We must welcome with open arms those who want to become legal immigrants. We must harbor those who truly need asylum. And we must create laws that keep out those who would harm our country and break our laws. First, however, we must secure our borders. In some places, that means a wall. Elsewhere, it may mean other technology or reliance upon natural boundaries. Once our borders are secured, we can address the rest.
Yes Should the United States use military force to prevent governments hostile to the U.S. from possessing a weapon of mass destruction (for example: nuclear, biological, chemical)?
Unknown Position Do you support reducing military intervention in Middle East conflicts?
The second question depends entirely on the circumstances and what/who is at risk. We need to protect and defend our allies in the Middle East and, importantly, Israel.
No Do you generally support removing barriers to international trade (for example: tariffs, quotas, etc.)?
I believe tariffs, quotas and other similar tools can be necessary to use and should be in the economic arsenal, as long as they're used effectively and sparingly as the President has done. We should NOT allow other countries to take advantage of trade opportunities and gain a competitive advantage. I support deploying these tools to ensure that doesn't happen. That said, we also must protect our U.S. industries and businesses from great harm when we use these tools.
1. Our responses to COVID have been and will be expensive, and we must determine how to use them effectively to regain our economic footing without adding to our deficit. That will mean making tough decisions about what we can and can't afford in other areas of spending. 2. Strengthening effective law enforcement and our response to anarchists trying to undermine our security and change the direction of our country. 3. Reducing reliance on and support of China by bringing back manufacturing; policing technology, bolstering cybersecurity, monitoring its military reach--land, sea, or air, and in space--and keeping it in check.
